MANILA, Philippines — Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Inc. (FFCCCII) director Nelson Licup has pledged support for the greening program of a multi-sectoral consortium dubbed as Project Mount Banahaw.

Last Sept. 14, the government and other stakeholders converged on the massive tree planting of more than 2,000 saplings of different varieties along the ridge of Mount Banahaw at Sitio Nancaan, Barangay Sta. Lucia, Dolores, Quezon.

The mythical mountain is considered holy by many Filipinos especially local folk living in adjoining provinces. The mountain is also a source of water for city residents and neighboring municipalities.

Participants of the greening project were encouraged to reap the long-term benefits of the tree-planting by sustaining the steady water supply of the Quezon Metro Water District to constituents and households.

The Quezon water reservoir level is getting lower every year and the greening activity manifested how vital water is to sustain lives.

The FFCCCII through Licup pledged financial support to the project and commended the personnel involved in preparations for the tree planting such as clearing bushes, digging holes and making tree-site markings at the site.

“It may not be felt immediately but we should not stop planting trees because of the long term benefits to humans and mother nature,” Licup said.
