E-technology makes it easier to talk to lawyer

Wilma Yamzon - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Science has made it possible to talk to a lawyer in a quick and easy way – thanks to e-lawyering, a modern electronic technology that will enable one to get legal advice/service online.

“There are over 10 million migrant workers scattered all over the world. Most of them will surely benefit from e-lawyering,” said lawyer Marlon Valderama, president and CEO of LexMeet Inc., who is starting up a legal tech company in the country.

“There is a demand for legal services for the legal issues left behind by Filipino migrant workers – marriage, support and custody issues, inheritance, investments, among others. Also, there are many small and medium scale entrepreneurs (SMEs) needing legal guidance,” Valderama said.??

E-lawyering, he explained, means a secure, professional method of delivering legal services online that is accessible to both the client and the lawyer anywhere through the internet.??He said at first, he was helping relatives and friends abroad to solve their legal problem either in person, by phone, text, chat and email messages. But later on, he found a more systematic and permanent way of serving them.

In 2010, Valderama established his own law firm and tried to bridge the gap between clients and lawyers by launching E-Lawyers Online (www.e-lawyersonline.com) wherein anyone can register and seek legal advice online.
