A ‘Breakthrough’ for science TV
MANILA, Philippines - A highly anticipated science series titled “Breakthrough,” co-produced by the National Geographic Channel and General Electric, has six episodes, each tackling human stories of scientific triumphs.
The series depicts actual experiences of scientists who have shown courage, imagination, passion and self-sacrifice in creating some of the world’s leading innovations that impact daily life.
Directed by Ron Howard, Brett Ratner, Peter Berg, Angela Bassett, Akiva Goldsman and Paul Giamatti, each episode tackles some of the most significant breakthroughs in the scientific community, such as the ebola pandemic, human longevity, brain science, cyborg technology, water apocalypse and large-scale energy.
National Geographic and GE are both long-time proponents of innovation, science and exploration.
Jocot de Dios, CEO of GE Philippines, during a special series premier held in Manila recently said, “this partnership aims to cultivate global interest in science and innovation, as our respective founding fathers have inspired before us and continue to do so.”
World-famous inventors Thomas Edison and Alexander Graham Bell have been, respectively, the founder and founding member of GE and the National Geographic Society.
“Through Breakthrough, we hope to spark young minds toward the spirit of innovation and perseverance that has sustained noteworthy inventors and scientists,” De Dios said.
Breakthrough premiered on National Geographic Channel in the Philippines on Nov. 5. Succeeding episodes are shown on Thursdays at 9 p.m.
