Binay, Marcos, Gov. Ejercito to grace PDA convention

MANILA, Philippines - Vice President Jejomar Binay, Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda Marcos and Laguna Gov. ER Ejercito will grace the 105th Annual Convention and Scientific Meeting of the Philippine Dental Association (PDA) on May 10-15 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.

The PDA convention is expected to draw around 10,000 participants consisting of dental practitioners, dental technologists, dental hygienists, local and foreign dental students, deans of schools of dentistry, and dental traders.

Binay will be the keynote speaker at the opening ceremony on May 11, Ejercito will be the guest of honor at the Fellowship Night on May 12, and Marcos will be the guest of honor during the President’s Night on May 14.

Dr. Corazon Flores, PDA incoming president and the first PDA president coming from the Laguna Dental Chapter, said the convention with its theme, “Dentistry at its Best,” hopes to enhance the dental practitioners’ skills on cutting-edge technology in oral and dental healthcare considering the roster of top-caliber international and local resource persons.

The convention’s Scientific Sessions Committee headed by Dean Arturo de Leon has prepared a broad spectrum of topics that addresses most, if not all, the concerns of the delegates.

The scientific sessions proper to be conducted on May 11-14 and hosted by 23 general and specialty affiliates of the PDA, are
composed of 26 symposia, two fora, two table clinics and a poster board competition. 

Comprising the symposia are Special Topics 1 — Prosthodontics, Aesthetic Dentistry, Practice Management, Clinic Design and Ergonomics, Geriatric Dentistry, Endodontics, Dental Implant, New Products and Innovations, Forensic Dentistry, Alliance for Cavity-Free Future, Periodontics, Cariology, Temporo-Mandibular Joint and Pain Management, Oral Surgery, Pediatric Dentistry, Diabetes Mellitus and its Impact to Dental Practice, and Dental Technology; Special Topics 2 — Dental Public Health, Dentin Hypersensitivity, Dental Technology, and Occupational Health and Safety; Special Topics 3 — Oral Health Systemic Health Interrelationships.

The two fora are Dental Ethics and Jurisprudence and Dental Students.

The pre-convention activities on May 10 include lectures to be conducted by the Philippine Association of Functional Jaw Orthodontics and Temporo-Mandibular Joint at the Bay View Hotel, and the Super Restorations lecture at the SMX Convention Center. There will also be a special seminar on BIR Issues and Concerns on the same day.

The convention will be highlighted by the House of Delegates’ annual session and Fellowship Night on May 12; PDA election on May 13; President’s Night on May 14; and Awards Night on May 15.
