Raycop UVC: Not your ordinary vacuum cleaner

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Keeping the house clean is one. Keeping it dust mite-free is another.

Recent studies show alarming cases of respiratory-related diseases especially among children.

Most of the time, the blame is on poor hygiene and sanitation. But little did people know that the cause of all these ailments is living among them — house dust mites.

Dust mites are harmless to most people. They don’t carry diseases, but they can cause allergic reactions in asthmatics and others who are allergic to their feces. Since the average human sloughs off 10 grams of dead skin a week, dust mites have a lot to eat in most homes. Cats and dogs create even more dander for dust mites to eat.

Since fiber-filled surfaces collect the most dust mite food, they have the highest concentrations of dust mites and their waste products. Dust mites are most at homes in mattresses, pillows, box springs, blankets, sheets, upholstered furniture, rugs, carpets, draperies, curtains, sheets, decorative fabric panels and tapestries hung on walls, pet beds, as well as the interiors of automobiles. They like it dark, warm and moist.

The conventional way, as how elders do it, is exposing these beddings or linens under the sun. So people pull the beddings, roll them over, place them outdoors where there is direct sunlight, let them stay for a minimum of six hours, then do heavy pounding afterwards.

“I saw how my mom does it before,” says Roselle Nantes, a math teacher, school nurse and mother of three children. However, modern living makes it difficult to do this routine, more so if one resides in a condominium and mattresses are getting thicker and heavier.

With busy schedules on weekdays, Nantes allots at least a weekend general cleaning. She makes it a point that housekeeping is both having it clean and healthy, especially for her case because she is asthmatic.

With the demands of her work and time, Nantes finds it toilsome to keep up with the traditional beddings-under-direct-sunlight-exposure stuff. She then had to resort using a vacuum cleaner instead. However, with a vacuum cleaner’s sturdy build, complicated multi-connections and assembling procedures, usage becomes limited and more rigid.

Nantes was first introduced to Raycop by a co-parent in school. “We were having our PTC (parent-teacher conference) when a parent had compassion on me for having the PTC while under asthma attack. That’s when she introduced Raycop. She sounded reassuring and convincing, as she herself has a child who was also asthmatic,” she recalls.

Raycop is the first UVC anti-allergy vacuum cleaner that kills 99 percent of bacteria and eliminates almost 94 percent of dust mites. It is especially designed to clean bed linens and other fabrics, helping create a healthier home by cleaning deep into household fabrics, mattresses, sofas, chairs, futons, crib, pads, bed sheets, pillows and curtains.

“The specific feature I find most useful about Raycop is the way it gets mites and allergens from my bed and the UV-C. I like the idea of getting ‘sunlight’ from it that I let it run through our closet (wardrobe) to eliminate odd odors, especially during rainy days. It’s cleaner and easier to use Raycop. The collected dust is well concealed. It gets dust and bed mites very well that since the time I used it, I never had asthma attack again. There’s not much to connect and link unlike the one I used before. I simply plug Raycop and it’s all set,” says Nantes.

Studies show that the customary six-hour sunlight exposure decrease the dust mite population by only 3.8 percent. And this is even more tedious and time-consuming. With Raycop, one only needs five minutes to clean beddings and number of dust mite decreases by 93.1 percent.

The process of eliminating bacteria and other allergens by the vacuum cleaner is through its patented three-step allergy care system. First, the vibrating pad shakes particles and dust mites away from mattresses at a whopping 3,600 times per minute (twice that in some models), making sure that even the most stubborn dust mites are removed.

This is followed by the UVC sterilization lamp that kills bacteria to leave surfaces germ-free. The lamp uses a highly efficient and effective 253.7 nanometer wavelength, the same germicidal ultraviolet wavelength used in hospitals, clinics and laboratories for almost seven decades now.

Finally, the device uses a cartridge filter that captures the larger particles and traps them so they cannot go back to the room.

“It is user-friendly that even my helper can operate it. Raycop is so easy to use that I can use it while ordinarily cleaning our bedroom,” says Nantes.
