Teenagers benefit from fish oil

-

MANILA, Philippines - Even teenagers can reap the many health benefits of fish oil. This was ensured by Dr. Denis Ngo, who specializes in internal medicine-gastroenterology at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Hospital in Manila.

“Practically, anyone, including a teenager can benefit from fish oil supplement as it is very useful in line with the different functions of the body system,” Ngo said.

Fish oil, like the Cenovis Fish Oil, contains the omega-3 fattyacids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic (DHA), which are known to provide the benefit of polyunsaturated acid required of one’s diet.

Ngo said DHA and EPA are essential nutrients that work on the cell and its cell-to-cell communication which carries out every important function of every organ in the body.

Ngo specified the many health benefits of the soft gel food supplement. He said fish oil, derived from the tissues of oily fish which contains EPA and DHA, is found to assist the functions of the brain better, helping improve the ability to recall and reason and likewise helping protect the brain from problems linked to Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

For teenagers, fish oil supplement can provide beneficial effects to help them cope up with any type of difficulty either academically or emotionally.

Since most teenagers are more sensitive when faced with various problems in their adolescence, fish oil supplement can provide beneficial effects as its EPA and DHA contents have been proven to help improve reasoning ability and concentration.

Fish oil acts as defense to their susceptibility to a more serious condition as it also resists depression and psychosis, and also reduces the risk of suicidal state brought about by the downturn. As per proven research, countries with the highest consumption of fish have the lowest cases o depression.

Asked what is the fish requirement in terms of gram per week, Ngo said at least one kilogram per week, but even if Filipinos are fish eaters, they fry it and the problem with frying is that the fish oil tends to blend with the cooking oil. What is being eaten that way is fish, which means they are not benefitting from the fish oil.

“On the premise of the supplement, Cenovis fish oil provides the benefit of polyunsaturated acid that is required to be taken 500 grams in the diet,’’ Ngo said.

“This is only a supplement and as a supplement, we don’t dictate as to how many capsules you will take because when you dictate, that’s already a drug. With Cenovis fish oil, as a supplement, one gram to 1.5 is enough,’’ he said.
