A simpler approach to cancer treatments
MANILA, Philippines - Cancer affects us in more ways than one, whether it be a known personality like Apple’s Steve Jobs, an acquaintance or someone closer to us, cancer is a reality that all of us have to face — and should be better informed about.
Even though Steve Jobs underwent a very public battle with cancer, his recent death was still a big shock to the world. Even with his deteriorating health, Jobs put on a brave fight after resisting modern treatments at first, and eventually undergoing the Whipple procedure to hopefully cure his pancreatic cancer.
Cancer can strike anytime, it can affect people of all stations in life — regardless of age, medical history, gender or race. This is why before it’s too late, it’s important that all of us become better aware both on preventive measures and of course, cures.
A Filipino reality
Unbeknownst to many, cancer greatly affects our country with the Philippines having the most number of new breast cancer cases in Asia. Back in 2010, it was estimated that more than 12,000 Filipinos were diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 4,000 fatalities. According to a report from the Department of Health, breast cancer is now the most common cancer in the Philippines and continues to be a threat to many.
While Filipino cancer patients continue to be optimistic and seek treatment as soon as they get diagnosed, there are still those who tend to wait it out, usually because they’d rather not undergo chemotherapy which is known to cause debilitating effects on the body.
A better way to cure cancer
However, chemotherapy is not the only cure for cancer. As the Guangzhou Modern Cancer Hospital tries to show. Thanks to modern technologies, more and more minimally invasive cancer treatments have already become available and serve as the near-perfect solution to patients who are battling the “Big C.”
As part of China’s largest medical group, Bo Ai, the Guangzhou Modern Cancer Hospital is best known for its modern approaches to cancer treatments which yield better results and less discomfort for patients.
The Bo Ai Medical Group, led by chairman Lin Zhicheng, firmly espouses the belief of providing effective, world-class, and affordable medical treatments to anyone who’d want to seek their help. Having developed into the biggest medical group in China, Lin is confident about their hospital’s many advantages in terms of being able to provide modern facilities; their team of highly skilled doctors, nurses, and other hospital staff; and their more personalized approach to caring for their patients.
Since 2005, the hospital has already treated 4,000 cancer patients — both Chinese and foreign patients who have found the Guangzhou Modern Cancer Hospital as the “alternative” that they’re looking for.
The 7th China Academic Conference on Minimally Invasive Therapy in Oncology
With a team of 20 resident oncology experts who have been trained in the latest oncology treatments, most especially those that are minimally invasive, the Guangzhou Modern Cancer Hospital served as the proud host of the recently concluded 7th China Academic Conference on Minimally Invasive Therapy in Oncology.
The five-day affair brought together medical experts from countries like Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, and of course, China along with academic experts to participate in a series of activities — various forums conducted by doctors from the Guangzhou Modern Cancer Hospital and some invited speakers from the academe; hospital tours; and a live presentation of how they conduct minimally invasive treatments on patients.
Guangzhou Modern Cancer Hospital
As one of the leaders in the practice of minimally invasive therapies in oncology, Guangzhou Modern Cancer Hospital’s Dr. Peng Xiaochi (hospital director) and Dr. Liu Yuan Sheng were both very gracious in sharing their extensive knowledge in the field.
Leading the hospital’s team of 20 oncology experts, the two have extensive experience in the various cancer procedures that the hospital specializes in like cryosurgery, nanotechnology, bio-immunotherapy, and bio gene therapy.
During the event primer held at the Guangzhou Modern Cancer Hospital, the hospital’s team of oncology experts led by Peng, prepared interesting and enlightening presentations, which were based on their own experiences in administering the different treatment techniques that they offer in the hospital.
By being able to mix modern oncology treatments with the best of Eastern medicine, the hospital is able to provide a safer and more effective approach to cancer treatments especially when it comes to patients who are too weak or are not eligible for chemotherapy.
In spite of the language barrier, the Guangzhou Modern Cancer Hospital has prided itself for still being able to make their patients feel comfortable and provide them with the best medical care possible.
Having introduced its foreign patients’ service in 2006, the hospital has taken very active steps in promoting minimally invasive cancer therapies for patients especially in Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines wherein they already have local offices.
Aside from offering affordable treatment packages, the hospital has also enlisted a team of interpreters, and other English-speaking staff to provide additional aid for patients.
As a result, these new approaches have been very well received by their patients, earning them referrals through word of mouth.
Having only started its operations in the Philippines just this year, the Guangzhou Modern Cancer Hospital hopes to also enlighten Filipino cancer patients that they do have options — affordable and effective options so long as they do not wait until the last minute to seek treatment. With such a serious disease, there really is no better time than now to take action.
