More benefits of omega-3 fish oil cited

-

MANILA, Philippines - Omega-3 fish oil is well known for its beneficial effects on the heart — preventing heart attacks, stroke, and sudden death.

Accumulating evidence from scientific studies suggests that it may also help reduce the risk of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease in elderly people, and may also help patients with psychiatric problems such as bipolar disorder.

Charles Cultura, national sales manager of Trianon International, which markets Cardiomax, a high-dose form of omega-3 fish oil manufactured in the United States, cites published biological and epidemiological studies that suggest that lower omega-3 intake is associated with an increased risk of dementia.

“Increasing dietary intake of deep-sea fish rich in omega-3 is ideal,” recommends Cultura, “but if this is not possible, oral supplements such as Cardiomax is recommended.”

Last year, Cardiomax has been introduced in the local market. It offers a more potent level of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids or good fats which protect the heart and blood vessels. Hence, doctors prescribe it at a dose of only one to two softgels a day compared to other low-dose omega-3 supplements that need to be taken at three to four softgels daily.

Cardiomax is an over-the-counter drug in Mercury and other leading drugstores and requires no prescription, but patients are advised to consult with their doctors first before they take it.

Cardiomax is manufactured by one of the leading manufacturers of food supplements and vitamins in the United States and is distributed locally by Trianon International, Inc.
