Confab to tackle health care info outsourcing

MANILA, Philippines – What used to be regarded as a field that focuses solely on medical transcription has now evolved and expanded into a whole range of disciplines that include medical coding, medical billing, IT support, and claims processing (just to name a few) — all of which now comprise an entirely new industry called health care information management outsourcing that represents a global market worth $19 billion.

The career and business opportunities alike in this new branch of the business process outsourcing industry, which has created more than 400,000 jobs and brought in more than $6 billion in revenues for the Philippines, will be explored in the conference entitled “Healthcare Information Management Outsourcing Services: Bringing the Philippine Workforce to the 21st Century,” on Aug. 10 at Ballroom A, Crowne Plaza Hotel on Ortigas Avenue.

The event is organized by the Medical Transcription Industry Association of the Philippines Inc. (MTIAPI), now known as the Healthcare Information Management Outsourcing Association of the Philippines.

The conference’s special guest of honor, Sen. Edgardo Angara, will deliver the keynote address on the role of the Philippine health care outsour­cing industry in positioning itself as major player in this global industry.
