Wonders of science featured at Nido Fortified Science Discovery Center

MANILA, Philippines - Learning science becomes more fun and enjoyable for children when they are presented with interesting facts about the subject. Giving them trivia makes them more fascinated with science and encourages them to learn more.

At the Nido Fortified Science Discovery Center, children can learn many of these through highly interactive galleries. Many of the attractions in this 3,000 square-meter, two-level facility are meant to teach the wonders of science.

Here are some fun and interesting trivia that schoolchildren would learn from the galleries and attractions of the Nido Fortified Science Discovery Center:

The world’s tallest building is Burj Dubai. Located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Burj Dubai is the world’s tallest man-made structure at 818m (2, 684 ft.). Unlike other skyscrapers in history, Burj Dubai is the only building that includes a residential space. It also has the world’s tallest elevator installation and has the fastest elevators.

Burj Dubai and some of the world’s tallest and famous buildings are featured in the gallery called City Science. The attraction also explains the science behind an earthquake, a natural phenomenon that can destroy buildings and infrastructures.

City Science likewise lets visitors experience an earthquake through an earthquake simulator platform to demonstrate how the ground shakes in the middle of a tremor. Here, visitors will also receive tips on what to do during and after an earthquake. 

The Earth warms more quickly. Scientists have found out that the planet Earth is beginning to warm faster than in the past as an effect of global warming. This phenomenon also causes excessive flooding, drought, and other environmental disasters.            

Nido Fortified Discovery Center’s Spaceship Earth opens our eyes to the current condition of our home planet and the other alarming consequences of abusing the environment. It also teaches guests how to take care of the Earth and prevent its further damage.

Tubbataha is the biggest marine-protected area in the Philippines. At 332 square meters, Tubbataha is home to some of the most beautiful coral reefs in the world. Unknown to many, our country has the richest concentration of marine life on the entire planet.

In Virtual Reef, guests are informed on the real occurrences underwater and how to help in taking care of our marine resources. They are likewise entertained by the funny and charming virtual fish named Mr. T.

The Segway Personal Transporter (PT) is the first self-balancing human transporter. Launched in December 2001, the Segway PT was invented by Dean Kamen. It’s a fun ride that could take people to places where bicycles and cars can’t go.

In the Transportation Nation, guests learn about the history of transportation and special vehicles such as the Segway PT. It also features the gentle alternatives to fossil fuels to make vehicles run. Guests are also taught how to land planes through flight simulators and design and build their own virtual cars.

Visitors could learn more about Astronomy in the Digistar Planetarium as it features short films about the outer space and our planet. This real-time 3D planetarium also allows guests to study the heavenly bodies and explore the outer space while staying indoors.

Digital Planetarium also features shows that discuss other science topics like climate change, the world of ice and animals.

Gravity causes things to fall to the ground. Gravity keeps everything here on Earth from drifting off into space. It is also responsible in causing ocean’s tides and other natural phenomena.

Children learn more about the force called gravity in Gravitram. This attraction, which is one of the latest additions to the Center, tries to explain the concept of gravity. The name Gravitram is short for Gravity Tramway, a rolling ball sculpture created by Shabtay Levy and George Hohnstein in 1973.

Kidneys remove wastes from the body. The kidneys are bean-shaped organs that help in getting rid of wastes from the body. These wastes may be urea, drugs, and toxic substances.

In Grossology, guests are able to learn about the functions of kidneys and the science behind burping and barfing. They also discover different bodily functions in this gallery.

The other attractions in the facility include Robot Inc., LEGO Mindstorms Robotics Center, ImagePort, and SMART Media City, and Life Clock, which also feature fascinating science concepts and technologies.
