Center bares latest hair transplant technique

-

MANILA, Philippines - Despite the worldwide economic downturn in 2008, more people continued to seek treatment for hair loss, according to statistics released from a recent member survey conducted by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS), the world’s leading medical authority on hair loss and hair restoration.

The gold standard in hair transplant is Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT), which has been the only permanent and natural solution to treat hair loss for both men and women alike. Also gaining popularity is eyebrow restoration and body hair transplant.

These procedures require dedication, devotion, enthusiasm, skill and technique on the part of the hair restoration surgical team, as well as appropriate instrumentation.

In keeping abreast of the latest advancements in hair restoration, the Asian Hair Restoration Center (AHRC) surgical team continues to invest in learning new developments and incorporating them into their practice, making it possible to do larger session.

In a recent trip to Denver, Colorado, the team was updated in the newest instrumentation and technology, the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE), a technique many hair clinics worldwide now provide.

This new technique offers the patient the option of no stitches, no scarring, and lesser downtime, and most importantly, makes body hair transplant possible.

Body hair transplantation (BHT) is the latest in the specialty of hair transplantation that is being presented as an option especially for patients who have limited scalp donor sites or to provide density after scalp hair transplantation.

Sites that can be harvested for hair follicles are the abdomen, armpits/axillary area, chest, back, beard, forearms, legs/thighs, and pubis. Body hair transplant also offers the removal of unwanted hair and placing them into an area where they are most needed.

The AHRC does not recommend BHT as primary treatment for baldness such as androgenic alopecia but can offer it as supplemental resource to add density in patients with limited or exhausted donor supply or in repair cases to transplant donor scars.
