High school students invited to RP math olympiad

MANILA, Philippines - The Mathematical Society of the Philippines (MSP) is inviting all high school students to participate in this year’s Philippine Mathematical Olympiad (PMO).

The PMO, now on its 12th year, is a national competition designed to select the best secondary students in mathematical problem-solving in the Philippines.

The winners of the PMO will receive cash prizes and will automatically qualify to join the training pool for the 2010 International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), from which the our country’s representatives to the IMO will be chosen.

The IMO is the largest and most prestigious international mathematics competition among secondary school students from all over the world.

The PMO qualifying round will be held simultaneously in all regions on Oct. 24.

All interested students must send their application form, through their school representative, by Sept. 25, to the testing center in their region.

The PMO is run by the Mathematical Society of the Philippines through the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute and the Department of Education, with support from C&E Publications, the Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corp., and the Foundation for the Upgrading of Secondary Education.
