Expo to raise awareness of diabetes
November 2, 2006 | 12:00am
This weekend, the Philippine Diabetes Association is holding the Diabetes Expo, a trade show aimed at bringing diabetes awareness to the general public and familiarizing them with resources and organizations that can make living with diabetes easier.
The event will be held in the Megatrade Hall 1 of SM Megamall in Ortigas, Mandaluyong City.
Diabetes affects more than 230 million people worldwide and is expected to affect 350 million by 2025.
The Philippine Diabetes Association fights this diabetes epidemic through information updates for physicians, healthcare workers, and people with diabetes and campaigns for the general public.
In addition to the expo, the association is marking World Diabetes Day on Nov. 14.
With the slogan "Diabetes Care for Everyone," the World Diabetes Day 2006 campaign aims to raise awareness of communities and groups in both developed and developing countries that experience difficulties in accessing optimal healthcare because they are outside the healthcare system or for some reason, are less likely to access or are less aware of the services available to them.
