Bioscience workshop, ecotour in Bicol set

-
The Philippine Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (PSBMB) is a 32-year-old nationwide organization actively involved in the promotion of the biosciences.

Aside from its annual convention, the PSBMB conducts projects to upgrade the teaching of the life sciences, such as the REVUP workshops.

REVUP is a REView and UPdate workshop series featuring lectures as well as hands-on, pen-and-paper and computer-based exercises to upgrade the teaching of these biosciences in the secondary and tertiary levels.

The workshop kit contains lecture handouts, updated references, exercises and a CD loaded with excellent teaching aids of interactive virtual lab and exciting animations on key topics in biosciences – ideal for classroom use.

The PSBMB is holding its 4th REVUP Workshop-Ecotour at the Bicol University in Legazpi City on April 18-21.

The Ecotour portion on April 20-21 will showcase the best of Bicol, including a butanding interaction in Donsol, Sorsogon.

Butanding
is the local name for Rhincodon typus or whale shark, the biggest fish in the world that congregates at Donsol Bay around February to May each year.

The influx of many foreign tourists has perked up the economy of this small fishing village. Time Asia magazine calls the butanding interaction as "Asia’s best animal encounter."

For more REVUP information and registration, log on to www.psbmb.org, e-mail to [email protected] or call NIMBB, UP Diliman at (02) 927-7516, 925-3250, or BU at (052) 820-0602. Deadline for registration is March 30.
