Two American specialists in the field of pediatric radiology have been invited to speak during the first combined postgraduate course of St. Lukes Medical Centers Institute of Radiology and Department of Pediatrics in cooperation with the St. Lukes College of Medicine-William H. Quasha Memorial on March 3 at the Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila in Quezon City.
Invited to speak during the one-day postgraduate course entitled "A Clinical Approach to Pediatric Medical Imaging," are Dr. Marilyn Siegel, professor of radiology at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri; and Dr. Elizabeth Ey, medical director of medical imaging of the Childrens Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio.
Pediatric radiology is a sub-specialty of diagnostic radiology that encompasses imaging procedures for the diagnosis of diseases of infants and children, such as plain film radiography, contrast studies, ultrasonography, nuclear radiology, computerized tomography, digital radiography, angiography, interventional techniques, and magnetic resonance imaging.
Siegels principal areas of interest are pediatric radiology, cross-sectional imaging, adolescent diabetes and obesity and cardiovascular imaging in both children and adults.
She is the author or co-author of 154 original scientific publications, 87 titled and review articles, 12 books and 40 book chapters in scientific literature, with topics covering the entire spectrum of pediatric imaging.
During the postgraduate course, she is assigned to talk about "Imaging the Child with Acute Abdominal Pain," "Congenital Lung Abnormalities" and a special focus session on "Advances in Congenital Heart Disease Imaging."
Ey, on the other hand, specializes in diagnostic and pediatric radiology.
In addition to being the medical director of the Department of Radiology of the Childrens Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio, Ey is also an assistant clinical professor at the Wright State University School of Medicine, also in Dayton, Ohio.
She has penned numerous presentations, book reviews, publications and scientific exhibits.
She is tasked the topics on "Role of Imaging in Genito-urinary Infections" and "Musculoskeletal Infections in Children."
