Solid Cement backs Clean Air Act

-
Vehicles at Solid Cement Corp.’s Antipolo plant were treated to free vehicle emissions tests in line with the national government’s Clean Air Act, as well as the company’s ISO 14001 certification for Environment Management Systems (EMS).

"Public participation," according to Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Heherson Alvarez, "plays a key role" in cooperating with "the global effort to exercise responsibility on clean, healthy and breathable air."

Putting the Secretary’s words into action, Solid Cement offered this free and worthwhile service to all vehicles entering its plant premises for two days.

Both private and company vehicles, as well as vehicles of contractors and suppliers, whether diesel or gasoline, underwent government-prescribed vehicle emission testing procedures to ensure their compliance with the rules and regulations of the Clean Air Act of 1999.

The Clean Air Act was a response to public clamor for government action against worsening pollution, particularly in Metro Manila.

Solid Cement, a member of the CEMEX Philippines Group of Companies, also implemented this program in fulfillment of its commitment to maintaining its ISO 14001 certification, as well as its commitment to the local community’s welfare.

The Vehicle Emission Testing program is only one of Solid Cement’s many pro-environment activities, which include tree planting, recycling, waste management and animal protection programs.
