Habitat Youth Council holds the 1st generation movers leadership congress

- The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Young visionary Alexandra Eduque brought together 38 youth leaders and formed the Generation Movers, a youth movement that currently supports Habitat for Humanity Philippines and its programs. Poverty alleviation, disaster risk mitigation, and community development were among the agenda that college students proposed to undertake during the first Generation Movers Leadership Congress of Habitat for Humanity Philippines (HFHP) and the Habitat Youth Council (HYC).

For two days, the Generation Movers exchanged ideas, drew up plans, and elected their first set of officers: John Michael Lava (President); Greg Emmanuel Villahermosa (Vice President-Luzon); Ron Jerril Amba (Vice President-Mindanao); Anna Resente (Head of Secretariat); Ferdinand Fevidal (Partnership Development Committee Head); Mark Cordero (Communications Committee Head); April Valencia (Programs Committee Head); Michael Villorente (Plans & Evaluations Committee Head); and Miguel Mapa (Volunteer Mobilization Committee Head).

Youth leader Ron Jerril Amba from Xavier University-Cagayan de Oro shared “There are a lot of things I learned in this two-day conference. I realized that I have transitioned from being an ordinary student to becoming a student leader. It is a challenge in holding a big responsibility as a leader but I was moved by the many inspirational stories I heard from the speakers.”

These speakers were Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero; journalist Cheche Lazaro; RockEd Founder Gang Badoy; and Mano Amiga co-founder Lynn Pinugu. They tackled nationalism, leadership, and project development.
