Verdanas weekend cooking demo
November 10, 2006 | 12:00am
From the pasts rock salt to todays tear-free onion, from plain bread to todays mud pie and dirt cake
food ingredients and recipes have evolved to satisfy peoples varying tastes and choices. More than that, however, food has become embedded in every communitys culture and tradition.
"Food and cooking has always been part of the Filipino community it is something that is close to our hearts," says Iris Josef, Community Innovations Project Development Manager. "Food bonds families. Over dinner, we dont just practice table manners; we practice the art of communication and we celebrate the spirit of kinship."
In this light, Community Innovations Verdana Homes Mamplasan, together with the United States Department of Agriculture, held a cooking demo in the South and made family cooking part of its Urban Lifestyle Series. This is an initiative of Community Innovations to encourage urban achievers to take time off from work and enjoy the lifestyles that they deserve.
Chef Jill Sandique, one of the countrys celebrated chefs, shared her culinary expertise with both parents and kids for a complete palatable treat. Chef Jill made dishes like Crudités, Penne with Tomato Basil Sauce and Panna Cotta more family-and novice-friendly with her practical tips.
"When you want to cook something special for your family, it doesnt have to be complicated," says Chef Jill. She shared guidelines on food preparationfrom the simple proper hand washing technique to the secret in sautéing and cooking various dishes.
Cooking is one of the best bonding activities for the family. It is an enjoyable way for parents to get closer with kids as they spend time meticulously preparing palatable dishes. They can share not only the taste and the aroma of the food but also the love and shared moments that are poured in its preparation.
