DPWH rushes completion of waterworks projects in Bataan

-
BALANGA CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is rushing the completion of 10 deep wells in three towns of the first congressional district of the province.

Engr. Cynthia Fineza, head construction section of the DPWH of the first engineering district in Bataan, told The STAR that the waterworks projects are distributed in the towns of Abucay, Samal and Hermosa and are expected to be completed before the end of the month.

Fineza said that Rep. Tony Roman had earmarked P4.1 million from his congressional initiative fund last year to provide adequate potable water to outskirt barangays and public schools of the three-four-class municipalities in northern Bataan.

She stressed that barangay officials and residents have sought the assistance of Roman to allocate portion of his Countrywide Development Fund for the immediate installation of waterworks system for the improvement of livelihood, health and sanitation and enhancement of the quality of life of the people in the remotest areas of Bataan.

According to Fineza, most of the beneficiaries are not covered by the existing pipelines of local water district offices.

Local officials initial reports showed that the residents have to fetch waters from shallow wells and springs for their household needs.

They claimed that few operational shallow wells might be contaminated by waterborne bacteria which may endanger the health and well-being of residents in the three localities.
