A five-star hotel suite inside RP international school

A school
within a hotel suite
within a school.
This may seem incredible, but this is the pleasant reality for students of IHMES International Hotel School, whose world-class training on professional hotel management now takes place within the confines of a brand-new five-star hotel suite that has been added to their classroom facility.
The new fully-furnished facility was opened recently, with Elizabeth Lee, IHMES owner and founder, and Nancy Reyes-Lumen, publisher and editor-in-chief of Cook Magazine, doing the honors during the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The 55-square meter suite is located at the third floor of the five-story Southville International School affiliated with Foreign Universities (SISFU), the local college campus of IHMES at BF International, Las Piñas City.
The air-conditioned room features a queen-sized bed, a television set, wall-to-wall carpeting and a bathroom with a separate bathtub and shower fit for any king or queen.
All furnishings are hand-made and are of the highest quality, one of the reasons why big companies such as Philippine Carpet Manufacturing Company (Tai Ping) and American Standard fully sypported the project. The carpeting of tufted cut pile, for instance, was donated by Tai Ping from its Nova collection.
The entire area was done in a variety of finishes to give the students an idea on how to properly maintain it. It also contains a housekeeping pantry, installed with state-of-the-art mechanical and manual housekeeping equipment and proper linen and chemical storage areas, and a laundry room with washing, drying and pressing facilities.
The installation and use of these facilities are aimed at providing IHMES students with the best training on modern facilities and equipment that meet industry standards.
Aside from the five-star hotel suite, the college also houses a fine dining restaurant, a bar and a kitchen in support of IHMES combination of theory and analysis with practical experience in providing instruction to its students.
Another important feature are the regular industrial visits to leading establishments to provide students a clearer picture of the actual industry set-up.
IHMES offers nine months of practical and theoretical studies at SISFU, one of the colleges affiliate institutions, culminating in an IHMES associate diploma in hotel management. Students may then transfer automatically to the main campus in the Isle of Man, British Isles, for further studies, inclusive of another nine months of paid practical work experience in top hotels in London.
(Applications are currently being accepted for the January, 2002 enrollment at IHMES. For details, please contact SISFU at 8205952, 8209181 or 8255147 or text thru 0919-6324520.)
