Triathletes gear up at Peak Performance Training Camp

MANILA, Philippines - Athletes of diverse backgrounds subjected themselves to two consecutive weekends of workouts and lectures at the recently concluded “Peak Performance Triathlon Training Camp”. Led by Andy Leuterio, Head Coach and Director of Alpha Training Systems, participants learned the science behind creating an effective training plan; technical aspects of swimming, biking and running; quick transitions; training and race nutrition; and other essential tools for achieving personal peak performance.

“You will encounter the term ‘Peak Performance’ when reading about triathlon,” says Coach Andy Leuterio. “It’s a state of personal excellence, when you are 100% ready. It’s when you are physically, mentally, and even emotionally prepared for the rigors of a triathlon, and it’s not exclusive to elite triathletes. Anyone, even the novice ‘Age-Group’ athlete, can achieve his or her Peak Performance given the right mindset and preparation,” he adds.

Joined by Coach Ria Mackay of Aqualogic Swim Co. and Miguel Lopez of Transition One, Peak Performance coaches shared with students valuable lessons learned from years of racing and teaching numerous clients. Swim sessions focused on efficient stroke technique, cycling focused on time trial skills, and running focused on gait analysis, training via Pace and Heart Rate, and running off the bike. The concluding workout was a short Swim-Bike-Run held at beautiful Pico de Loro Resort where participants got a taste of how a real triathlon would feel.

Guest speakers from Dan’s Bike Shop and Light n’ Up Marketing also gave talks on bike setup and brought demo products for participants to try out for themselves.

More “Peak Performance Training Camps” will be scheduled throughout 2012, with sessions tailor-fit to the needs of novice and advanced athletes.
