MANILA, Philippines — The newly rehabilitated EDSA busway stations in Monumento and Bagong Barrio in Caloocan as well as North Avenue in Quezon City were opened yesterday, the Department of Transportation said.

The DOTr said this is part of Phase 1 of the EDSA busway rehabilitation project, which aims to make the system “more accessible and comfortable for passengers, in line with the President’s directive.”

Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez inspected the busway stations yesterday to “ensure the infrastructure’s safety for passenger use and to identify further improvements that could be made to enhance the commuting experience.”

The busway stations have been upgraded with wider platforms, brighter and more open spaces, improved waiting sheds, railings, vertical louvers, tactile paving, wayfinding signage and LED information displays.

The DOTr is also working on fixing the elevators at these stations to ensure a more convenient travel for passengers.

EDSA busway budget

Lopez said the restoration of the DOTr’s proposed budget of P1.756 billion for the EDSA busway is intended to ensure that the dedicated bus system can provide efficient and commuter-centric solutions for workers, students and other passengers.

The EDSA busway project received zero funding under the proposed 2027 National Expenditure Program of the Department of Budget and Management.

President Marcos earlier expressed support for the project that has proven to reduce travel time, benefiting millions of commuters.

From 2020 to August 2026, the DOTr said the EDSA busway has served over 367 million passengers.
