4 Camarines Sur LGUs get post-harvest facilities

MANILA, Philippines — Solar and wind-powered modular cold storage facilities and a slaughterhouse have been turned over to four local government units in Camarines Sur, according to the Department of Agriculture (DA).
The facilities aim to reduce post-harvest losses, improve meat-handling services and expand income opportunities for farmers, fisherfolk and livestock raisers.
The towns of Garchitorena, Lagonoy, San Jose and Tigaon were the beneficiaries of the cold storage facilities worth P45.5 million.
Aside from the storage facility, a slaughterhouse worth P51.5 million was turned over to the local government of San Jose.
Farmers and fisherfolk also received P79.6 million worth of machinery including tractors and harvesters as well as boats and fishing gear.
The facilities and the machinery will benefit over 10,762 farmers, fisherfolk and other food producers in 10 municipalities.
Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said these farm facilities and machinery are expected to strengthen local food supply chains, create job opportunities and spur economic activities.
