Of pageantry and purpose

Mutya ng Pilipinas continues its legacy as the pre- mier beauty pageant in the Philippines and in Asia with the launch of Mutya: 50 Years of Pageant and Purpose commemorative book at the Grand Ballroom of Ascott Bonifacio Global City Manila. Led by Mutya ng Pilipinas Inc. chair- man Fred Yuson and president Hemilyn Escudero-Tamayo, the event was a homecoming of sorts for the queens and queen-makers. The book, which will surely be cov- eted by pageant enthusiasts in the country, documents the complete Mutya ng Pilipinas journey since its inception in 1968 and chronicles the stories of the stunning winners of years’ past and how the pageant has affected their lives and advocacies. The com- memorative book also serves a wonderful purpose as proceeds of the sales were donated to the Philippine Cancer Society.
