SCG empowers Filipino workforce through scholarships in US, UK and Thailand

ASEAN leading conglomerate SCG has further upgraded its employee engagement program in the Philippines through the launch of the SCG employee scholarship. Driven by SCG’s business philosophy of nurturing its workforce, this educational program is open to qualified and dedicated employees of SCG and its subsidiaries.

Unlike other employer-sponsored scholarships which only provide monetary support or tuition fees, SCG employee scholars receive regular career planning, coaching and consultations from SCG human resources managers. Upon completion of their post-graduate degrees, SCG employee-scholars are given an opportunity to work in a summer internship program or be reassigned to select SCG overseas subsidiaries.

Launched in 1973, the SCG employee scholarship program was created to advance the skills and knowledge of employees to equip them to lead SCG’s growing global workforce. This annual education and training benefit is extended to tenured and high performing employees under the SCG network.

Selected SCG employee-scholars may then receive a full scholarship in Masters in Business Administration (MBA) at Harvard, Wharton, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), London Business School or other leading universities in the U.S.A, United Kingdom or Thailand. A technical master degree and doctorate degrees in science and engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford, University of California, Georgia Tech, Carnegie Mellon and Imperial College, London, or other prominent universities are also provided to qualified employees.

Previously exclusive to SCG Thailand, the scholarship program’s scope was extended to tap SCG’s growing pool of Filipino talents this 2008.

Employees Ariel Domingo and Frederick dela Cruz Tan were chosen to represent UPPC to this year’s roster of employee-scholars. Domingo and Tan are the first Filipino SCG employees to be included in the scholarship program. They are testament to SCG’s commitment to maintain its ASEAN business leadership by empowering the workforce in areas where they operate.

UPPC assistant division manager for plant administration Ariel Domingo, will pursue a Masters Degree in Supply Chain Management at the University of Michigan. While, UPPC assistant division manager of the maintenance and energy division Frederick dela Cruz Tan was granted a scholarship in Master of Science in Paper and Imaging Science at the Western Michigan University.

“We recognize the skills of our employees and believe it is our responsibility to develop and encourage them. The expertise and dedication of our workforce enables us to deliver world-class goods and services,” said Leukulwatanachai.

The SCG employee scholarship program is an integral part of SCG and UPPC’s human resources development scheme to boost the capabilities of both the workforce and its brands.
