Small Subic cafe serves the biggest pizzas
December 12, 2005 | 12:00am
Xtremely Xpresso Cafe, a unit of Grand Food Venue Corp., has been serving Subic residents and guests the biggest pizzas since 2003. At 22 inches with 16 slices, the pizza covers almost the entire table.
Earl Hansen Foo, general manager of the family enterprise, said, "this is perhaps the biggest you can find in the country. Its filling enough for a family or a barkada and very reasonably price, too." The pizza sells from P429 to P599, depending on the toppings.
The best-seller is the house specialty, the Big Ben Pizza, which is loaded with pepperoni, sausage, bacon and beef on veggies, garlic onions, pepper, mushroom, black olives and two kinds of cheese.
Other pizza choices are Vegetarian, Herb Tuna Melt, Spanish Sardines, Brazilian bechamel, California style, all-meat, taco and Hawaiian.
"When my late father Benson Foo opened the cafe, he wanted to give visitors of Subic and residents of Olongapo a cozy and classy dining place at par with the standards of restaurants in Manila. We added the word Xtremely to tell our cients that we go to extreme lengths to give them the best food and service in Subic," Foo said.
Satisfied customers have rewarded Xtremely Xpresso with loyal patronage such that it has survived the tough times when even a US brand coffee shop franchisee had to close shop.
From only six employees in April 2003, the staff has grown to 20 to accommodate extended working hours and "Initially, the concept was to stick to just serving coffee and pastries. Since guests started clamoring for additional menu items, we decided to add entrees for breakfast, lunch and dinner," said Foo.
Situated in Subic Bay Freeport Zones central business district, Xtremely Xpresso is now a cafe, restaurant, deli and wine store rolled into one. It has unique blend of specialties that include original Lavazza Italian espresso coffee, frappes, teas, pastries and cookies, as well as charbroiled steaks and grilled meat dishes served for lunch and dinner.
Revenues rose 20 percent in 2004 and looks on track to continue the pace in 2005. The cafe is popular with expatriates who live in Subic, tourists frequenting the place for vacations and Olongapo residents who want a place where the whole family can dine.
Going forward, Foo is confident that Xtremely Xpresso will continue to attract, if not grow, its clientele of professionals and families, the anchor of its strong showing in the last two years.
"We boast of the warm and relaxed country ambience that other coffee shops dont have. We also take care of our customers, listen to their suggestions and try to provide them the best possible service. Although competition is tough, were hoping to increase our market share in Subic and surrounding provinces and at the same time be known to visitors from Manila and elsewhere in the country," Foo said.
