MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Bank (PNB) partnered with the Gawad Kalinga Community Development Foundation Inc. (GK) to build a self-sustaining community in Lubao, Pampanga, which includes housing for at least 30 underprivileged families, a pre-school and a multi-purpose hall. Dubbed PNB-GK Village, it is the first housing project of such magnitude to be initiated by a bank in the said province for this year.
The village will be built on a 1.2-hectare land donated by PNB. It will also provide funding for the construction of the houses and related facilities, which is estimated to reach P3.45 million.
This is one of the very few GK housing projects wherein a single donor provided for the land and development cost. GK, on the other hand, will handle construction management, selection of beneficiaries as well as their value formation and livelihood training. The project is the first to be launched by GK this 2009.
