Le Bistro in search of sustainable coffees

MANILA, Philippines - Le Bistro is in search of so-called sustainable coffees from the Philippines. These are coffees sourced from small farms around the country. “We want to make sure what we are getting is really Philippine coffee,” said Lot Tan, Le Bistro Terminal 2 and 3 operator. “I asked my good friend Chit Juan to source all our coffees for us,” she added.

Chit Juan, president of the Philippine Coffee Board, is only too happy to go around the country and look for varieties that Philippine coffee advocates like Lot Tan is searching for.

“I just came from Benguet where I saw small communities that still harvest coffee and we pay them a good price to keep on planting and harvesting Benguet coffee,” she said.

Le Bistro said it is very particular about the quality of the coffee that they serve especially because they have become the first and last stop of tourists and balikbayans.

Le Bistro coffee stores are at the airport. “We want the tourists to have a good impression of our Philippine coffees,” Manalo said. “It is our mission not only to do good business but to give pride to our Filipino farmers by serving their coffees,” Juan said.
