MANILA, Philippines – The “First National Summit on the Culture and Processing of Shellfishes” will be held in Dagupan City (Pangasinan) on Sept. 23-24.
That two-day forum will be conducted by the Asian Fisheries Academy (APA), Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (DA-BFAR-NFRDI), both based in Bonuan Binlec, Dagupan City; and the Los Baños, Laguna-based Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Aquatic and Marine Research and Development (DOST-PCAMRD).
The summit aims to gather information on shellfishes, particularly on the status of the fisheries and available technologies, identify gaps and market for the development and management of the shellfish industry; identify strategies for the formulation of a five-year road map for the industry; and prepare a resolution for the promotion of shellfishes as valuable resources.
