Salt-tolerant rice variety
July 3, 2005 | 12:00am
The Cagayan Valley Lowland and Marine Research Outreach station (CVLMROS) researchers identified PSB Rc90 (Buguey) as the first salt-tolerant rice variety in Region II.
PSB Rc90, formerly PR25989, was a selection of CVLMROS from a pool of segregating lines developed by the Philippine Rice Research Institute.
PSB Rc90 yields nearly 4.5 tons of rice per hectare at salinity level up to three millimhos per centimeter.
It can be planted even in rice areas with no severe salinity problems. BPG
