MANILA, Philippines — Finance Secretary Frederick Go has formally joined the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ Monetary Board after President   Marcos  designated him as the Cabinet representative to the BSP’s policy-making body.

BSP Governor and Monetary Board Chairman Eli Remolona Jr. administered Go’s oath of office during a ceremony at the BSP head office in Manila yesterday. Go takes over the post previously held by former finance secretary and now Executive Secretary Ralph Recto.

“I am honored to accept my appointment to the Monetary Board and sincerely thank the President for his continued trust and confidence,” Go said.

“I will pursue the strategic alignment of fiscal and monetary policies in support of the Monetary Board’s mandate to maintain price stability and safeguard our financial system. I look forward to working with my fellow Monetary Board members in building an economy that is resilient, robust and inclusive for every Filipino.”

Aside from Remolona, the Monetary Board’s other members are former finance secretary Benjamin Diokno, former national treasurer Rosalia De Leon, Romeo Bernardo, Jose Querubin and Walter Wassmer.

Before taking the helm of the Department of Finance, Go served as special assistant to the President for investment and economic affairs.

In that role, he coordinated the implementation of the country’s economic and investment policies and chaired the economic development group while working closely with other government agencies.

Prior to joining the government, Go was chief executive officer of Robinsons Land Corp. He also held leadership positions in companies across a wide range of industries, including media, retail, food, banking, finance, airline, airport, petrochemicals and power.

Go holds a bachelor’s degree in management engineering from the Ateneo de Manila University.
