MANILA, Philippines — Digital bank Maya has teamed up with Singapore-based financial technology firm Atome to channel P2.75 billion (about $48 million) in loans to Filipino consumers, to widen access to credit in the country.

The collaboration will allow Maya Bank to power Atome’s lending operations, giving creditworthy customers more flexible and responsible financing options.

“We are delighted to work with Atome to expand credit access for more Filipinos. This collaboration leverages digital technology to bring fast, secure and responsible financing into the hands of underserved customers, helping them build financial confidence and long-term resilience,” Maya Bank president Angelo Madrid said.

Atome started in Singapore in 2019 and is Southeast Asia’s leading digital finance platform, offering embedded financing, cards, lending, insurance and savings products.

It processed more than $2 billion in gross merchandise volume (GMV) in 2024 and has doubled its run rate to over $4 billion as of June this year, driven by growing merchant tie-ups and consumer adoption.

In the Philippines, Atome told The STAR that it has issued 1.6 million PayLater Anywhere cards in just two years since its launch. It expects to close the year with as many as 2.1 million cards, banking on strong organic adoption and referral programs.

Christian Quiros, Atome Philippines president and country general manager, said the partnership strengthens their mission of improving lives through greater financial access.

“Together, we are expanding access to responsible, risk-managed, and transparent flexible payment options that make more products and services truly ‘Available-To-Me’ for millions of Filipinos,” Quiros said.

Launched in 2022, Maya Bank is the country’s first digital bank operating under the Maya ecosystem, which integrates payments, savings, deposits and credit for both consumers and enterprises.

The partnership underscores the push for financial inclusion in the Philippines, where access to formal credit remains limited for many households and small businesses.
