BI to deport viral Chinese ‘cat killer’

MANILA, Philippines — A Chinese man who went viral on social media for kicking a community cat in Makati was arrested yesterday.
Jiang Shan, 32, will soon be deported after the Bureau of Immigration (BI) found that he has been overstaying in the Philippines for over a year.
Jiang was nabbed by BI operatives at his house in Barangay Palanan after records showed that he failed to renew his four-month tourist visa, which expired in September 2023.
Volunteer animal group CARA Philippines posted closed-circuit television footage on March 6 showing Jiang – clad in a tank top and shorts – knocking a frail cat named “Ken” at Ayala Triangle Gardens while he was jogging.
Rowena Taniegra, one of the volunteers responsible for overseeing community cats in Makati, earlier told The STAR that the incident occurred on Jan. 4.
After two days, the cat died due to liver and gallbladder injuries, Taniegra said.
The group is bent on filing charges against Jiang for violating the Philippine Animal Welfare Act.
