MANILA, Philippines — Okada Manila partnered with Swedish firm Nordaq to elevate its sustainability initiatives by getting rid of single-use plastic bottles.

The five-star integrated resort in Parañaque is replacing single-use plastic bottles with filtered water bottled directly within its property.

Through a partnership with Nordaq, a Swedish company known for its state-of-the-art water filtration technology, Okada Manila will be able to provide its guests with sustainable and premium water.

Nordaq’s patented system is among the preferred choices of top hotels and restaurants worldwide.

“Okada Manila is playing its part in building a better, greener tomorrow. Through our own water filtration and bottling system, we are significantly reducing the demand for single-use plastics,” Okada Manila president and chief operating officer Byron Yip said.

The move is part of Okada Manila’s ongoing efforts aimed at embracing innovative solutions that reduce environmental impact.

“We are elevating our waste management protocols through the Okada Green Heart program. This bold move proves that we can prioritize the planet while still delivering a premium experience to our guests,” Yip said.

The new system allows Okada Manila to produce 1,000 bottles of water per hour, all served in reusable glass bottles.

Okada Manila said that the sustainable approach does not only enhances the quality of water provided to guests, but also eliminates the use of approximately two million single use plastic bottles annually.

“By embracing this change, we’re not just reducing waste – we’re setting a new standard for what responsible hospitality should look like. It’s a win for our guests and a win for the planet,” Rob Scott, vice president of hotel operations, said.

Okada Manila said it intends to extend the use of Nordaq water across other areas of operation, fully integrating the environment-friendly initiative into all guest experiences.
