EVAP to boost partnership with China promotion council

MANILA, Philippines — The Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) is looking to strengthen its partnership with the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Automotive Sub Council (CCPIT Auto) in promoting the development of the EV industry in the country.

EVAP president Edmund Araga and chairman emeritus Ferdinand Raquelsantos recently met with CCPIT Auto assistant chairman James Chai in Beijing to discuss collaborative efforts in the EV industry and the upcoming 12th Philippine EV Summit (PEVS).

During the meeting, EVAP said Chai provided an overview of the history of the Chinese automotive industry.

He shared that the first vehicle produced in China was a 2.5-ton light truck in 1953, under the brand FAW (First Auto Works).

In 2022, China has positioned itself as a global leader in EVs with the development of electrification and intelligence in the auto industry.

With China being a leader in EVs, Araga is looking forward to the partnership opportunities between EVAP and CCPIT Auto.

“China’s leadership in the electrification of the automotive industry is an inspiration. We look forward to leveraging this expertise to advance the EV industry in the Philippines,” Araga said.

During the meeting, EVAP also promoted the upcoming 12th PEVS, scheduled from Oct. 24 to 26, at the SMX Convention Center in the Mall of Asia in Pasay.

The event, which will be attended by industry leaders, policymakers and stakeholders, will discuss the future of electric mobility in the Philippines and Southeast Asia.

CCPIT Auto has committed to provide support to the PEVS.

Last month, the EVAP and CCPIT Auto signed a memorandum of understanding to work together to accelerate the EV adoption.

EVAP said the collaboration underscores the shared vision of both organizations to encourage sustainable and innovative transportation solutions.
