One Meralco Foundation’s household electrification program has benefited 255 households in Doña Remedios Trinidad, Bulacan.

MANILA, Philippines — One Meralco Foundation (OMF), the social development arm of Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), has powered around 255 homes in several villages in Doña Remedios Trinidad, Bulacan.

Through OMF’s flagship household electrification program, Meralco’s Sta. Maria Business Center and Plaridel Sector teamed up with local officials to install individual service entrances.

A service entrance is a component of an electrical system that connects the utility’s power supply to a house or building for electricity to be distributed to various circuits.

“Our residents greatly benefited from this program, allowing their homes to have (their) own electric meter. (OMF), Meralco and its contractors’ efforts to ensure access to reliable electricity will improve their daily living conditions,” said Ronaldo Flores, Doña Remedios Trinidad mayor.

Jeffrey Tarayao, OMF president and Meralco chief corporate social responsibility officer, claimed that the initiative would not only empower communities but also contribute to the country’s growth and development.

“Bringing electricity to homes is at the heart of the OMF’s mission. We empower not just the family by illuminating their homes, but we also unlock a world of possibilities for the community by enabling and enhancing productivity through new businesses (that) they can start, expand and evolve,” he added.

Since 2015, OMF has energized over 2,600 homes in Doña Remedios Trinidad. This is aligned with Meralco’s efforts to support the government in its pursuit of 100 percent electrification in the Philippines.

Apart from its household electrification program, OMF is also involved in powering remote and off-grid public schools, livelihood facilities, rural health centers and water access facilities to provide opportunities to the country’s underserved communities.
