Guide to Building Code IRR for property developers

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Center for Global Best Practices will host a comprehensive two-day training titled, “Property Developers’ Guide to the Building Code IRR of the Philippines,” on May 21 and 22, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the EDSA Shangri-La Hotel, Mandaluyong City.

This program will provide attendees clear guidance and the correct interpretation of the 2005 Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of the Building Code of the Philippines – solving the issues of differing interpretations that cause confusion and disputes among different parties and stakeholders.

This program will align all the different referral codes such as architectural, structural, plumbing, sanitation, electrical, mechanical and interior design codes with the Building Code IRR. It will also cover updates on the latest government issuances, memorandums, and decided cases on conflicts affecting building construction and its maintenance, as well as remedies to cease-and-desist orders of projects. Participants will also learn valuable advice on how to address the issues concerning delays in getting approval for clearances, permits, inspections of ongoing and finished construction projects and many more.

For those in the private sector, knowledge of these will help ensure timely release of building permits and clearances, and provide the knowledge to deal fairly and squarely with building officials. For those in the public sector, it is a must to have a clear understanding of this IRR to avoid administrative cases or graft-and-corruption-related complaints due to building code and construction issues.

Learn all these from CGBP master trainer and lecturer Agustin Torres, who was part of the oversight committee on the crafting and implementation of the revised IRR of the Building Code of the Philippines.  Presently, he serves as a consultant at the DPWH National Building Code Development Office and of Quezon City LGU.  He is also a technical expert on adjudication cases involving construction-related lawsuits.  He has over 40 years of experience in the construction industry and is a consultant of many local and international firms especially in solving their most challenging issues in dealing with the government.
