DOTC defers anew bid submissions for LRT-6

Louella Desiderio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) has moved anew the submission of pre-qualification documents for the proposed P65.1 billion Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 6 project from June 2 to Sept. 9, leaving the fate of the deal in the hands of the incoming administration.

The opening of the pre-qualification documents will be held immediately after the deadline.

Prior to the June 2 deadline set by the DOTC, firms interested in the project were supposed to submit the pre-qualification documents on May 12.

With the new deadline scheduled in September and the term of President Aquino set to end on June 30, it will be up to the new administration to pursue the project.

LRT-6 is a proposed 19-kilometer railway which will start from the end of the LRT-1 extension or Niyog in Bacoor, to Dasmariñas City in Cavite.

The railway’s proposed right of way alignment is along the Aguinaldo Highway with seven stations: Niyog, Tirona, Imus, Daang Hari, Salitran, Congressional Avenue and Governor’s Drive.

The private partner for the project will have a 30-year cooperation period with the government including five years to complete the construction of the railway.

Among the winning bidder’s responsibilities are the financing, design, construction, operations and maintenance, as well as the procurement of rolling stock for the train system.
