UPS more upbeat on Philippine prospects

Louella Desiderio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Logistics firm UPS Philippines is optimistic its business would continue to grow next year on the back of favorable economic conditions and rise of e-commerce.

Tim Gohoc, managing director for UPS Philippines, said the rapidly growing e-cmmerce market is seen to support the company’s business in the country.

The Philippine economy is expected to grow by five to six percent next year.

“For 2016, we will grow faster than the country’s GDP (gross domestic product),” Gohoc said.

Among the company’s customers in the country are e-commerce sellers.

“We do see it (e-commerce) expanding from Philippines outside so as a service provider, we provide the reach within the country and we provide them the global network that they can use to expand their target audience or target market,” he said.

The company’s  outlook for the Philippines is in line with the expectation for Asia as the region is seen to lead global growth in the next five years amid strong consumption.

“The Philippines continues to be an important market for UPS,” Gohoc said.

To better serve customers in the Philippine market, UPS recently expanded its reach with the addition of 185 new postal codes to enable companies to send shipments directly to more locations across the nation.

The company has likewise extended the pick-up cut-off time for packages and made adjustments to have the earliest delivery time possible for areas served to enhance its services.

UPS offers a broad range of solutions including transportation of packages and freight as well as facilitation of international trade and deployment of advanced technology to more efficiently manage businesses in more than 220 countries and territories worldwide.
