DOLE holds more job fairs

Mayen Jaymalin - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is mounting more job fairs nationwide in an effort to further pull down the country’s unemployment rate.

Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said DOLE is set to hold over 40 job fairs for the remainder of the year.

“There are still more than 40 job fairs in the remaining months of 2015 so we could provide more productive job opportunities to jobseekers nationwide,” Baldoz said.

Baldoz noted that job fairs are more viable and more economical venues both to search for workers and to search for jobs.

“The year 2015 is almost over, but we in the DOLE are keen to really open up more opportunities for job seekers, hence our job fairs will continue to be conducted until the close of the year,” she explained.

The country’s network of local government units and Public Employment Service Offices (PESOs) under the supervision of the Bureau of Local Employment, including DOLE’s regional offices,  will host the DOLE’s job fairs, Baldoz said.

“We are constantly promoting better coordination between employers, the academe, and the government to strengthen cooperation so the opportunities in the job fairs will be accessible to jobseekers in major cities, municipalities, and even in the barangays,” he added.

Baldoz said the onsite presence in the job fairs of DOLE and other government agencies, such as the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, ensured that workers received related assistance, including skills training, retooling and upgrading to enhance their employability.

The job fair schedules, Baldoz said, is accessible in the Phil-Job.Net, at http://www.phil-jobnet.dole.gov.ph/Schedule.aspx.

DOLE has attributed the holding of job fairs and other government’s job facilitation programs in the continuing drop in the number of jobless people nationwide as shown by recent Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) survey.
