Palace: Gov't gives 'maximum effort' to keep low inflation
MANILA, Philippines - The Aquino government is doing its best to maintain the country's low inflation rate, Malacañang said Monday.
"Government is exerting maximum efforts to preserve the purchasing power of the peso. Our inflation rate of 1.2 per cent is at its lowest," Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said in a text message.
Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte noted that since 2010, the country's yearly average inflation rate has been going down.
The Palace officials' statements came after the latest Pulse Asia survey showed that 47 percent of Filipinos are most concerned with the country's inflation while 46 percent are concerned with workers' pay.

Coloma claimed that Filipinos are satisfied with how the president is addressing the economic concerns of the country.
He said that the same Pulse Asia survey showed that 64 percent of Filipinos were satisfied with the performance of President Aquino while only 22 percent were not satisfied.
"Even if they are 'concerned' with those specific issues, almost 2 out of every 3 respondents were still satisfied with the president's overall performance," Coloma said.
