Meralco's September generation charge lowest in over 5 years

MANILA, Philippines – As the Manila Electronic Company (Meralco) announced a new power rate reduction on Monday, the lowest generation charge in more than five years.

For the fifth consecutive month since May, Meralco is set to lower the electricity bill for September with 58-centavo per kilowatt hour (kWh) cut.

“We would like to advise our consumers that Meralco power rates are again down. So this is the fifth straight month that the overall rates have gone down,” Meralco Spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga said, adding that this is the lowest charge in over five years.

With the new eased power rates, a household with a consumption of 200 kWh will have almost P114 in reduction from their monthly bill.

Last August,  Meralco costumers' electricity bills were lowered to almost 60 percent of electricity cost with a 26-centavo per kWh reduction.
