Napocor switches on 64-kw diesel power plant in Bohol

MANILA, Philippines - The National Power Corporation (Napocor), the state-owned power company, through its Small Power Utilities Group (SPUG) has switched on recently the 64-kilowatt Cabul-an diesel power plant in Bohol.

The switch-on is part of an P8 million missionary electrification project in Cabul-an Island, Buenavista in Bohol, Napocor president Ma. Gladys Cruz-Sta. Rita said.

“The establishment of power plants in the off-grid, far-flung villages and islands is NPC’s commitment to the inclusive development the administration of President Aquino wants to achieve for the country,” she said.

According to Napocor, the power plant would be able to service 430 households, while 780 potential households would be invited to apply for electricity connections through the Bohol II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Boheco II).

Sta. Rita urged residents of the island to do their part by paying bills on time for the sustenance of the project.

Cabul-an Island is located between the northern coast of the province of Bohol and Olango Island of Cebu and is one of the flourishing tourist destinations in Visayas, Napocor said.

Napocor SPUG provides electricity to far-flung villages and remote communities around the country which are not connected to the main grid.

The government corporation has stepped up efforts to improve electricity service in SPUG areas.

It has been implementing a program that aims to minimize power outages in remote areas and far-flung villages.

In a recent meeting with electric cooperatives, Sta. Rita said the company would implement a weekly review for blackouts and load shedding of power plants.

It would also implement a new fuel operations manual that would standardize the process of fuel usage and inventory, additional power generation capacity, line faults monitoring and upgrading of transmission line projects as well as the purchasing of flow meters and fuel oil storage tanks for sufficient on-site fuel supply.

The initiatives are aimed at improving electricity service to 750,000 missionary electrification end users.
