Maynilad's Geographic Information System gets ISO certification

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) recently earned its 86th ISO certification after its Geographic Information System (GIS) passed the certification audit of TUV Rheinland Philippines, Inc.

Maynilad said that the certification came after its implementation of a quality management system that satisfies the requirements of the latest ISO 9001 standard.

Maynilad said that through GIS, it was able to update and validate the geographical location of its pipes and laterals. It said that the system enables the company to efficiently locate and decommission deteriorated pipes, search for possible leaks and illegal connections, and measure the extent of its pipe laying activities.

“Our continuing goal is to provide our customers with world-class water and wastewater services. Accurate and accessible geographical data will enable us to meet this goal,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ricky P. Vargas.

Besides the ISO 9001:2008 certification of its GIS, Maynilad also holds ISO certifications in HRD, Corporate Quality, Environment, Safety and Health, its vital facilities, namely La Mesa Treatment Plants 1 and 2, Dagat-Dagatan Sewage and Septage Treatment Plant, Tondo Sewage Pumping Plant, Central Laboratory, Water Network (including its accompanying pipelines, 12 pumping stations, Head Office and maintenance shop), Logistics Warehouse (central and three satellite areas) and North Business District which is composed of North Caloocan Business Area, Fairview-Commonwealth Business Area and Novaliches- Valenzuela Business Area.

Maynilad is also the first and only water company in the Philippines to receive the ISO 14064:2006 certification for the verification of its greenhouse gas or carbon footprint quantification and reporting initiative.

Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base.

It serves the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (all but portions of San Andres & Sta Ana), Quezon City (west of San Juan River, West Avenue, EDSA, Congressional, Mindanao Avenue, the northern part starting from the Districts of the Holy Spirit & Batasan Hills), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in the Cavite province.
