Toyota recalls Corolla models due to faulty airbags
MANILA, Philippines - Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. (TMPC) is recalling around 3,500 units of the Corolla model to replace a faulty part of the airbag.
TMPC vice president for corporate affairs Rommel Gutierrez said the recall affects Corolla units “sold between the period of May 2001 to March 2003.â€
The move is part of a global recall of 1.73 million units of Corolla, Tundra and the Lexus SC being conducted by Toyota Motor Corp. due to airbag problems.
The recall is being undertaken as the airbag in the front passenger seat may not inflate correctly due to a manufacturing defect.
As a result, it could start fires or possibly injure passengers.
There have been no reports of injuries caused by the airbags, but the recall is being conducted to ensure the customers’ safety.
Gutierrez said owners of the affected units could bring their vehicles to TMPC’s dealers for the replacement of the faulty part.
“Replacement, if necessary, of certain part in the airbag assembly will be free of charge,†he said.
“We will advise our dealers when to coordinate with affected customers,†he added.
The recall of the affected Corolla units is the first to be conducted by TMPC this year.
