Partners for environmental protection
MANILA, Philippines - East Zone concessionaire Manila Water Co. and the city government of Manila have teamed up for a tree-planting activity and a drive to clean up the city’s esteros in combined efforts to promote environmental protection under the former’s Toka Toka Environmental Movement. Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim with city engineer Armando Andres and barangay chairman Aldrin Lopez led the planting of some 300 trees along the bank of the Perlita Creek, Osmeña Highway. Manila Water also donated 150 units of cleaning materials for the city’s estero clean-up drive which is one of the ‘Tokas’ (share) of the city government in the Ayala-led water and wastewater service provider’s campaign to clean up the metropolis’ polluted river systems. Manila Water has launched an ambitious environmental movement dubbed ‘Toka Toka’ calling for the participation of everyone to do his share in protecting the environment. The movement enjoins everyone to do any of the following four ownable acts which will redound to cleaner rivers and waterways: connect to Manila Water’s sewer network for areas where there are separate sewer lines; have their septic tanks desludged or cleaned every five years; practice waste segregation and proper disposal of solid waste and support, local and national sanitation and wastewater programs.
