BPAP, Tesda tie up to keep Phl competitiveness
MANILA, Philippines - The umbrella organization of major players in the information technology and business process outsourcing (IT-BPO) and global in-house center (GIC) has tied up with the state-run Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to boost the country’s global competitiveness.
Benedict Hernandez, president and chief executive officer of the Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP), said that the industry values its partnership with government, especially in the area of skills development.
BPAP has partnered with TESDA to administer Trainers Methodology Plus (TM Plus) or the first IT-BPO-focused trainers’ training program in the Philippines initially launched at the University of Makati.
“Prospects for Filipino talent remain bright. The Philippines is among the top global destinations for outsourcing services. But industry growth can only be sustained if we have a steady supply of talent and the trainers to develop them,” Hernandez said.
Tesda director general Joel Villanueva said the agency prioritizes programs that enhance the skills of trainers and align them with the skill sets industry requires.
He pointed out that the TM Plus training provides the means for trainers to acquire the competencies required to capably deliver training to IT-BPO standards and is an important and necessary step in developing the training infrastructure required to prepare workers for today’s jobs.
