Insurance Commission slates seminar-workshop on Aug 31

MANILA, Philippines - The Insurance Commission, in line with its intention of enhancing the capabilities of the conservators, receivers, and liquidators it had appointed over insurance corporations and pre-need companies under its regulatory provisions, is holding a seminar-workshop to be held on Aug. 31, 2011 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Top of the Citi on the 34th Floor of the Citibank Tower, 8741 Paseo de Roxas, Makati City.

Insurance Commissioner Emmanuel F. Dooc will open the session and deputy commissioner Vida T. Chiong will give the concluding remarks and hand out the certificates at the closing.

The roster of speakers is led by lawyer John A. Apatan of the Insurance Commission, in charge of conservators, receivers and liquidators appointed by the Insurance Commission, who will talk on their duties and responsibilities, both to the commission as well as to the beneficiaries and plan holders. He will be followed by experts from the private sector, such as lawyer Cherry Bernaldo of RSBernaldo & Associates, CPAs; Irene Diomampo of the Bank of the Philippine Islands; and by Prof. Carlos H. Yturzaeta, a very much sought after insurance consultant and contractor.

Bernaldo will focus on key areas in financial statements and books of accounts of covered companies while Diomampo will deal with the fiduciary principles relating to the management of their trust funds and other assets. Yturzaeta will cap the lectures on claims administration. An open forum will ensure after the speakers have made their presentations.

The seminar-workshop is open to the public. A nominal fee of P2,000 will be charged to answer for the light merienda that will be served and for the heavy materials that will be given to each attendee. Discounts will be given to those already appointed by the Insurance Commission as conservator, receiver, or liquidator.. MCLE credits are still being worked out.
