Globe reiterates commitment to integrate ICT in public schools

MANILA, Philippines - Globe Telecom has reiterated its commitment to fully integrate information and communication technology (ICT) in public education through its partnership with the Department of Education and Microsoft Philippines.

Globe is supporting the Innovative Education Forum, to be held at the SMX Convention Center at the SM Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City, on Feb. 3-4, 2011. The forum is a showcase of educational solutions and aims to bring the Filipino student’s learning experience to a higher level by integrating technology and introducing innovative teaching methods. At least 500 teachers from all over the country are expected to attend the event.

The conference will involve plenary and track sessions on ICT leadership in school administration, best practices in ICT for education, ICT for learning, collaboration and communication in the classroom, and 21st century skills for school heads and teachers.

“We recognize the need to help people leverage on technology as a tool to face the growing challenges of globalization and provide good education to young minds. It is through partnership with the government and other stakeholders where we can improve the quality of education in the country and we are honored to be with the Department of Education and Microsoft Philippines in this endeavor,” Globe corporate social responsibility head Jeffrey Tarayao said.

Highlights of the Innovative Education Forum include the public launch of the Global Filipino Schools (GFS) Program, a competency-building initiative that utilizes ICT to help students, teachers, and school heads in select public high schools nationwide, and the Innovative Teachers Leadership Awards, where public school teachers who have maximized the use of ICT in learning will be recognized.
