Expert to talk on taxation of financial institutions
MANILA, Philippines - With the intensified campaign of the BIR and the clamor of banks and other companies with quasi-banking functions to learn and solve tax-related issues in their field, the Center for Global Best Practices (CGBP) is launching a pioneering program titled, “Taxation of Banks & Other Financial Intermediaries” scheduled on Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Edsa Shangri-La Hotel, Mandaluyong City.
This one-time seminar will benefit organizations and individuals involved in banks, investment houses, finance and leasing companies as well as pawnshops. This special program will focus on updates, solutions, and best practices regarding various forms of taxation, including documentary stamp tax, taxation of trust and trust products, taxation of OBUs and EFCDUs and other financial transactions. The in-depth lecture will cover BSP matters related to tax, BIR audit thrusts and proper interpretation and implementation of new BIR rulings.
The featured lecturer for this special program is tax expert Benedicta “Dick” Du-Baladad, CPA, managing partner of Du-Baladad & Associates (BDB Law). Formerly president of the Tax Management Association of the Philippines, her areas of tax practice include banking, insurance, capital markets, financial intermediation, advertising and technology.
She has been practicing taxation and corporate law for almost 25 years. She has authored two books, namely, “Taxation of Financial Institutions in the Philippines” (which won the Anvil Award of Merit) and a new book entitled, “Taxation of Banks and Non-Banks Financial Intermediaries in the Philippines” which will be released in October 2010 and will also be available for sale during this seminar. Participants will also get the chance to have their books signed by the author on the said event.
